Married without children

Pud,

I’ve been married for 17 years, and the relationship has deteriorated over the last 4-5 years. We loved each other once upon a time. Now all I can think about is being single. I’m not looking to hook up with anyone else. I just want to be by myself. We don’t have any kids. Is this a midlife crisis, or do I need to move on with my life?

Signed,
Stuck in New York

Dear Stuck in New York,

No kids, so you have a girlfriend, not a wife. How do I know you’re a man? Let’s just say I don’t get a lot of 40+ women writing me that they want to be suddenly single.

Consider yourself lucky. But be scared too. Why? You’ll find the true meaning of “grass is always greener on the other side. “

You’ll get divorced, and you’ll be a wreck.

But you’ll also be getting non-committal sex from women half your age, and a new sense of passion.

And there’s nothing like coming home from the office, kicking off your shoes, and knowing that you own your life.

Move on.

Yeah move on, there is no use being in a relationship if you are not happy. Plus your significant other is probably getting old and wrinkely.

Ilona you are hot do you live in DFW area?

thank you. but no. (also, fyi, i am not yet old and wrinkly, but i will be someday, and with that in mind i must say i take offense at your suggestion that that’s a reason to toss aside one’s life partner. every person over 50 would be single if everyone took that attitude.)

We will all wrinkle like a pop can in a foodsaver food sealer bag someday, god forbid. I am just lucky they have come out with Viagra.

You shouldn’t take offense to my last comment it will make you wrinkle faster. Next time you are in Dallas I will buy you a drink.

Kids have nothing to do with whether or not you are married! He does have a wife, not a girlfriend. Otherwise it would be a “breakup” you are recommending. Not a “divorce.”
